Automark Industries (India) Pvt Ltd has been a pioneer in the road safety product sector since 1988. The company initially manufactured road marking machines in India and later expanded its portfolio by importing thermoplastic road marking materials and glass beads. Over the years, Automark has established a strong presence across the country with advanced road marking solutions.

Project Summary

To reduce dependency on conventional electricity sources and lower operational costs, Automark Industries collaborated with Chirayu Power Pvt Ltd to install a 275 kW solar power system. This project not only enhances sustainability but also significantly reduces the company’s carbon footprint.

Technical Specifications

  • Solar Modules: Waaree 540 WP Panels (506 panels)
  • Inverter System: Solaredge 100 kVA Inverters (2 Nos.)
  • Annual Energy Generation: 3,80,000 kWh
  • Estimated Annual Savings: Rs. 3,439,800/-
  • Protection Systems: Lightning arrestors, DCDB & ACDB with SPDs, safety railings, and walkways

Key Features & Engineering Aspects

High-Efficiency Solar Modules

The system is powered by P-type 540 WP Waaree solar panels, one of the most trusted brands in India. These panels offer high efficiency and durability, ensuring optimal power generation throughout their life cycle. The total of 506 panels provides the required capacity of 275 kW, harnessing solar energy efficiently even in varied climatic conditions.

Optimized Inverter Selection – Solaredge 100 kVA

For enhanced performance and monitoring, the project incorporates two Solaredge 100 kVA inverters. The key advantages of choosing Solaredge inverters include:

  • Panel-Level Monitoring: Provides real-time insights into each panel’s health, ensuring early detection of any performance degradation or faults.
  • Optimization Feature: Maximizes energy production by mitigating losses caused by shading or module mismatch.
  • Enhanced Safety: Reduces DC voltage during maintenance and emergencies, offering additional protection.

Advanced Mounting Structure for Slope Compatibility

The solar panel mounting structure was engineered to align with the sloped rooftop. To achieve this:

  • 100 mm anodized aluminum short rails were used, ensuring durability and corrosion resistance.
  • The structure was designed to withstand wind loads and environmental conditions, maximizing system longevity and stability.

Safety Measures & Structural Enhancements

  1. Electrical Protection:
    • Proper DCDB (DC Distribution Box) and ACDB (AC Distribution Box) were installed with Surge Protection Devices (SPDs), preventing damage due to voltage surges.
    • The system ensures stable power transmission and protects sensitive components from electrical hazards.
  2. Physical Safety Features:
    • 24'' Epoxy-Coated Safety Railings: Installed around the system to prevent accidents, particularly during panel cleaning and maintenance activities.
    • GI Walkways for Easy Access: Ensuring proper movement for maintenance personnel without damaging the panels.
    • Heavy-Duty Ladders: Installed to provide access to various rooftop levels where height differences exist, ensuring safe movement for maintenance teams.

Lightning Protection System

Lightning safety is crucial for solar power plants, especially in industrial settings. The following measures were taken:

  • 1 Early Streamer Emission (ESE) Lightning Arrestor with a protection radius of 108 meters.
  • 2 Pure Copper Lightning Arrestors to divert direct lightning strikes away from the solar system and the company’s infrastructure.
  • These measures provide enhanced safety, reducing risks related to lightning-induced surges and electrical failures.

Project Impact

Energy Generation & Cost Savings

With a total estimated annual energy generation of 3,80,000 kWh, Automark Industries significantly reduces its reliance on grid electricity, leading to the following benefits:

  • Reduction in electricity bills: Savings of approximately Rs. 3,439,800/- annually.
  • Operational Efficiency: Reliable solar power ensures consistent energy supply, reducing power interruptions and dependency on expensive grid power.
  • Sustainability Contribution: Reduction in carbon footprint by cutting down fossil fuel-based electricity consumption.

Enhanced Reliability & Long-Term Benefits

  • Remote Monitoring & Maintenance: Solaredge inverters enable real-time monitoring, ensuring timely maintenance and optimal performance.
  • Structural Durability: The use of high-quality aluminum rails and walkways ensures longevity and ease of operation.
  • Improved Workplace Safety: Dedicated safety measures help protect workers, preventing accidents related to electrical faults or rooftop maintenance.

CO2 Offset:

  •  By generating clean solar energy, the project offsets a substantial amount of carbon dioxide emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment.

Equivalent Tree Planting:

  • The positive environmental impact of this solar project is equivalent to planting 34,500 trees, highlighting their commitment to sustainability.

Conclusion

The 275 kW solar project at Automark Industries (India) Pvt Ltd is a testament to the company's commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and safety. By leveraging advanced technology, optimized inverter systems, and robust safety features, the project ensures reliable energy generation and long-term cost savings. This installation not only enhances the company's green credentials but also establishes a benchmark for industrial solar energy adoption in India.

With this successful solar implementation, Automark Industries continues to innovate while promoting sustainable energy solutions, setting an example for other industrial enterprises to follow.
