No Grid Support Charges in Maharashtra

On 1st April 2020, during the lockdown of the complete state due to Covid19, great news has come for the solar industry. As per the press release by MERC, there will be no Grid Support Charges in the state of Maharashtra.

MERC (Maharashtra Energy Regulatory Commission, Mumbai) in its press release of 1st April 2020 stated that “Till Maharashtra reaches the solar roof-top capacity of 2000MW, there will be no Grid Support Charges” which was proposed by MSEDCL in its earlier notification.

It should be noted that till March 2020, it is said that Maharashtra has a solar roof-top capacity of 426MW.

That means till the solar installation of 1574MW, there will be no Grid Support Charges and for Solar Grid solution contact Chirayu Power.

Along with the new declaration, the MERC has introduced a new charge known as the Banking Charges. As per the press release, for all the electricity exported by a consumer, he/she will be liable to pay the MSEDCL a charge known as Banking Charges.

For HT (High Tension) consumers, the banking charges will be 7.5% while for the LT (Low Tension) consumers, the banking charges will be 12%. We can understand this with the help of an example.

Let us suppose a consumer has exported 1000 units of electricity generated by solar system. The MSEDCL (Grid), for these exported units, MSEDCL will reduce 75 units for HT consumers while it will reduce 120 units for LT consumers and user will get the rest of the electricity.
